  • My work focuses on abstract painting, encaustic photo collage, and integrating fine art with fine craft. Themes of industry and labor, tension and release, time and memory often surface. Rooted in abstract expressionism, my paintings are driven by movement and process, exploring storytelling through gestural mark-making, kinetic palettes and careful layer structuring. My collages fuse encaustic wax with images I've photographed and illustrated – often merging industrial and flora/fauna based imagery. I love the handcrafting process of heating and manipulating encaustic medium to create levels of translucency.
    _______________

I've lived throughout the US in small towns, large cities and rural countrysides – including NYC, SF Bay, Scranton and Raleigh/Durham. Growing up in a post-industrial city – surrounded by structures that previously housed factories, coal mines and steel mills – prompts my references to industrial imagery. My first art studio was a communal space in DUMBO Brooklyn, and I currently work out of the Raleigh area.  My career covers a range of creative roles, with ongoing digital art projects for clients including Apple, Google, and global ad agencies. I’ve worked as an in-house artist for The Metropolitan Museum, Christie’s and artnet.com, and for many years was the lead assistant to a corporate art consultant in Manhattan. BFA in Illustration/Studio Art from Marywood University and additional training from NYU, Pratt, and FIT. I exhibit nationally in galleries and museums, and my work has been published in The Denver Post and Manhattan Arts International.

Paintings‍ ‍

Abstract expressive pieces – exploring storytelling through gestural mark-making, kinetic palettes and careful layer structuring. Acrylic and mixed media on wood panel and canvas.

Encaustic collages

Images I've photographed and illustrated are fused with encaustic wax to wood panel – often merging industrial and flora/fauna based imagery. These works can be 10+ layers deep. I love the handcrafting process of heating and manipulating encaustic medium to create levels of translucency and depth.

Check In / Check Out

‘Check In / Check Out’ is an ongoing series about finding balance and serenity in the era of doom scrolling, click bait and rabbit holes. Triggering words from contemporary discourse are merged with calming nature based imagery, using photos from my travels and personal archive to create surreal landscapes. Layers of photo illustrations on rice paper are fused with encaustic wax on wood panel.

Heavy metal

Mixed-media works based on my photography of industrial structures, construction sites, and mechanical equipment. Growing up in a post-industrial city – surrounded by structures that previously housed factories, coal mines and steel mills – prompts my references to this imagery. I’ve lived in several industrial areas including the DUMBO neighborhood of Brooklyn, and Scranton PA – as well as in rural and agricultural areas including the Hudson Valley and Clayton NC.
